What about hygiene? Have you ever wondered if you should brush your cat's teeth and how? If your cat just won't take the hint with the breath mints you've been putting in his bowl, try these tips.
- Will work better if you start with a kitten or very young cat.
- Help your cat to feel comfortable having her mouth touched by gently placing your finger in the cat's mouth or on the teeth while in your lap or while you are petting him/her. (I've had my cat for 8 years, can't see him letting me casually touch his teeth)
- (Now this one might work) Put favorite food (like the water from a can of tuna) on the toothbrush and let him/her get used to it before attempting to brush.
- Always offer a special treat after. A treat that isn't available at any other time. (Great training tip!)
- Use a harness NOT a collar. (Great Advice for keeping your cat alive)
- Begin the training in the house when the cat is hungry and you are providing a treat.
- Start with a leash on for a minute. Increase time during each training session.
- Once your cat is comfortable on the leash in the house...venture outside.
- Stay in yard. Don't go far. (Then what's the point?!) By doing this you can avoid dogs and other animals. (Geez, Whatever!)
