Bed Sheets Repel Deer From Gardens

Yep, ordinary white bed sheets. Must be white. You'll see. Every once in a while a tip will come along that deserves honorable mention. Not only does it qualify because of multiple uses that make sense. It's completely doable for me. Meaning no crazy ingredients or instructions. An honorable mention has a little bit more. And this tip using bed sheets to repel deer from my garden, made me giggle. See if it doesn't put a smile on your face.

Circle your garden with cord about 3 feet from the ground. Then about every two feet tie strips of the white bed sheet. A flash of white, tail-high warns a deer to high-tail it.
Please tell me you just smiled. Maybe a little?

We are not through with those white bed sheets just yet.
  • drop cloth when painting
  • happy birthday banner, garage sale banner, welcome home banner  team banner, your get the idea.
  • target practice once you draw a bull's-eye.
  • very handy for taking to the lake to lay on while sunbathing, use as a towel or a tablecloth.
Speaking of tablecloths. You know those red and white checkered plastic table cloths sold in the summer. Grab one of these and let the kids use it to play checkers or for drawing. The ability to write on these tablecloths has been useful and fun at the same time for the adults too.

One more honorable mention before you go.

Stuffed animals are not just for setting around to look cute. I guess that is their main thing. But you know what else they can do while setting around looking cute. And by the way if  you are fresh out of stuffed animals, but dying to make some bookends. Don't buy them brand new. Save your money and adopt from a thrift store. They usually have a lot on the shelf. Some of them have the original tag attached.

(I once found a Steiff stuffed dog at the bottom of the stuffed animal bin at a thrift store.)
  • set stuffed animals along the bottoms of windows and doors during the winter to stop a draft and set there looking all lined up and cute.
  • insert rocks or marbles, sew them up, apply some rubber from a glove to the bottom of your stuffed animal bookend to prevent slipping, while sitting there looking cute.
  • makes a great hiding place for valuables because they are cute, not hiding anything.
Speaking of stuffed animals. Some one should start a not-for-profit shelter and adoption center for all the homeless stuffed animals that go without needed love everyday. And too many are trashed and discarded, only to wind up at the landfill. Never to return.

The shelter would also promote manufacturing awareness. From the manufacturers to the advertisers and all the other occupations involved. They must take  responsibility for the role they have played contributing to the stuffed animal crisis we see today.

Thanks for stopping by.
Leave a comment and let me know where to repay the visit with a link. Do you agree with my choices for honorable mention? Maybe you have a candidate for the title? Share, please.

7 Rules To Teach Children On How To Treat Dogs

Keep your children and the dog out of harms way.  A child's innocent enthusiasm and curiosity might cause a dog to growl or bite.  Educate your children with these 7 basic common sense rules to follow when dealing with a dog.

 How To Treat Dogs
  1. Don't tug a dog's tail or ears.  Teasing a dog is never a good idea.
  2. Leave the dog alone while he is sleeping.  The same goes for eating, never take their foo
  3. Before petting a dog, make a fist and let him sniff it first.
  4. Enter a home where a dog lives only if someone who can control the dog is home.
  5. Always keep a safe distance away from the dog's mouth or paws.
  6. Be extra careful around dogs that were raised in a home with no children.
  7. Unless the owner is present, always stay away from strange dogs.

How To Walk Your Cat or Brush Their Teeth

CatHere's a great tip (maybe a little humorous too) for keeping your cat off of cabinets, tables and furniture.  Temporarily covering the forbidden areas with double-sided tape should do the trick.

What about hygiene?  Have you ever wondered if you should brush your cat's teeth and how?  If your cat just won't take the hint with the breath mints you've been putting in his bowl, try these tips.
  1. Will work better if you start with a kitten or very young cat.
  2. Help your cat to feel comfortable having her mouth touched by gently placing your finger in the cat's mouth or on the teeth while in your lap or while you are petting him/her.  (I've had my cat for 8 years, can't see him letting me casually touch his teeth)
  3. (Now this one might work)  Put favorite food (like the water from a can of tuna) on the toothbrush and let him/her get used to it before attempting to brush.
  4. Always offer a special treat after.  A treat that isn't available at any other time.  (Great training tip!)
What about walking your cat?  Have you ever tried?  Now that's hilarious.  Just try it and you will see what I mean.  Again, I found some tips to help you, should you feel the need.
  1. Use a harness NOT a collar.  (Great Advice for keeping your cat alive)
  2. Begin the training in the house when the cat is hungry and you are providing a treat.
  3. Start with a leash on for a minute.  Increase time during each training session.
  4. Once your cat is comfortable on the leash in the house...venture outside.
  5. Stay in yard.  Don't go far.  (Then what's the point?!)  By doing this you can avoid dogs and other animals.  (Geez, Whatever!)
I love my cat.  I really do.  That's why I don't think I will be traumatizing him (or myself) with either one of these ideas.  The tape thing is another story all together.  That actually sounds like fun and might work better than the spray bottle full of water.
