22 Tips For Garage Sale Success

• Nothing should be priced under $1. Small items can be grouped together in a baggie for $1. The see through grab bags always catch my eye at the thrift stores. If I spot at least one "gotta have" item in the bag plus all that other stuff, I am a buyer. Taking small change out of the equation as much as possible makes so much sense. 
• No discounts before noon. Having clear boundaries keeps things running smoothly during the sale. A schedule for markdowns is a good idea. $1 is much easier to markdown than 25 cents. Advertise the markdown schedule too.
• Think about the questions you know the shoppers will ask and have responses ready. Can we use your restroom? Bulk sales? Discount? 

• Keep items organized as the sale goes on. 
• Play music only during the slow times. 
• Two people should be manning the sale at all time.
• Keep the peace. Don't argue in front of your shoppers. If everyone wore the same color during the sale, they would be easier to find when it gets busy. 
• All clothes should be hung up for easy access.
• Nothing on the ground. Only a few exceptions.
• Books stacked where the title on the spine is visible. I have put the books in smaller boxes, so they won't be so heavy once full, with spine up and found this useful.
• Make sure everything is priced. The bigger the item, the bigger the size of the price tag should be. Prices should be visible. People do not want to hunt for a price.
• Keep running totals for each seller involved.
• Keep an assortment of change on hand at all times. You don't want to risk losing a sale because you don't have change.

• Expenses should be divided evenly among all sellers.
• Have plenty of bags, boxes and packing for purchases. Helps to start gathering these way before the sale is set to begin. 

• Always have a table or box full of free items.
• Group like items together and have a sign for the grouping.
• Put decent sale signs with arrows on every possible corner in your neighborhood. Main roads with lots of traffic are great assets for your sale. Don't underestimate their power. Bright pink or white is more noticeable.
• Brainstorm about ways to make money during the sale. For example: drinks, baked goods, or plant starts.
• Advertise your sale on line. Don't forget the pictures. Gsalr.com, yardsales.net, yardsalesearch.com, garagesalefinder.com, garagesaletracker.com, craigslist.com. This is just a few places that come to mind.
• Tell your neighbors you plan on having a sale. Give them enough time to put out a sale of their own. The more sales in the same area will attract shoppers.
• Have a plan in place for left overs. Donate to thrift stores. Giveaway?. Throw away? You will be tired after making all that money, having a plan will make closing the sale stress free.

Tips For Buying and Selling on Craigslist

Selling:
1. You must take a picture(s) and post it on your craigslist add. No one wants to go to someone's home to look at something they haven't seen. I don't even look at any "selling" post unless there is a picture.

2. Describe it. Tell us the color, size, and be honest about knicks, scratches, and tears. Take a picture of those too.

3. Give the price and inflate it slightly because people (like me) will want to negotiate. So if you want to sell a dresser for $75, list it for $85 or $90. Some people don't ask for a lower price so you may get a higher price anyway. By the way, check out how much your item is selling for on craigslist. Don't overprice your 1980's bedroom decor because you bought it for 1,000s of dollars back then. Be careful not to underprice your items too. You may be surprised how much people are willing to pay for your gently used stuff. Do your homework.

4. If you're single, don't give out your number, just set up one of those craigslist emails. You can ask the buyer to include a number to arrange a viewing.

5. If the items is small enough, meet at a neutral location like a nearby Starbucks. We've done this several times and most buyers are fine with it.

6. If the item is too large to transport, take it into your garage or just outside your door for the prospective buyers to view. We don't have people enter the home for obvious safety reasons and make sure someone (a male -husband, brother, friend) is with you.

7. Accept cash only. Don't take any other form of payment, just cash. There are a lot of scams out there, so minimize being taken by only taking cash.

Buying:
1. Be specific in your own mind about what you want and don't deviate or settle. Consider things like size, color, price you're willing to spend, etc. Right now I'm looking for a coffee table for around $20 or a set for $50. I want real wood (there's that REAL word again) in a rectangle shape. No oval, round, etc. You can also look up key words like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Anthropologie, etc.

2. Call or email right away. Early bird gets the worm when it come to craigslist.

3. When you go to see an item, take someone with you always! And tell someone where you are going.

4. If you don't like the item, you are not obligated to buy it. Just thank them for their time and let them know it's not what you're looking for. We looked at several chairs before we bought one.

5. Always negotiate the price unless their post says the price is firm. I hate that by the way.

Trick For Faster Snow Shoveling

Coat your shovel with floor wax and the snow will glide right off.  This will also prevent your shovel from rusting.

Place a dry towel in the dryer with a load of just-washed clothes to absorb a lot of the excess moisture.  Dry in a fraction of the time.

1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup ammonia, 1/2 cup wisk, 1/2 cup water combined in a spray bottle makes a great laundry treatment for stains.

Screws will be easier to insert if you rub them over a bar of soap first.

To discourage mice from venturing into your kitchen, hang mint sprigs in your cabinets.  Rub the plants often to release the scent, which mice find unpleasant.

To make water refreshing, add frozen lemon wedges.  As they thaw, they flavor the water and keep it cool.

Site Seeing Directory

     When I sit down at the computer my intentions are to work on my blog.  There is a lot of information I am going to add to my Cosmic page.  I have several Resources I use on a daily basis that need to added.  Springfield, Missouri has a lot to do with Pitt Stop.  I will explain that as soon as I get around to posting there.  The Freebies page gets updated often.  Not as often as I would like!  While the List That and Print This pages have a lot to offer, there could be more.
     My point is every time I get on the Internet, I stumble upon something I must check out.  Sometimes it's a money maker.  I like those.  I enjoy getting free samples and can hunt them down all day.    Sometimes it's something I have been wanting to research anyway.  Sometimes it's just pretty darn entertaining stuff.  If I go to facebook, you can be sure there will be someone ready to chat, someone I've been meaning to connect with, but haven't found the time lately.  And, if you are a fellow blogger you know how clicking "next blog" in your navigation bar can suck the time away.  Two, three, maybe four hours later I feel guilty and/or ashamed for not accomplishing any of what I had set out to do, whether it be on the net or in the "real world". 
     So!  Today I am going to take a different approach and list some detours for you to check out and tell me what you think about them.  Even though I seem to find plenty on my own, I would love to know about the websites that have captured your attention.  Which ones keep you entertained?  Which websites are of the most use to you.  Which ones can you not get enough of?  Leave a comment to let us all know.

• Thrifty Fun is exactly what is says it is, thrifty and fun.  It's a networking site where you can post a question and get your answers from others.  There is tons of very useful information and some of the feedback is pretty funny.  I guarantee you will enjoy this one.
• Tips for New Bloggers is a great site for all us rookie bloggers and some seasoned pros too.  You can post comments asking for advice on your own blog.  The article archives are packed with tips on how to add widgets, edit HTML, get more traffic and a lot more.  Prepare to be informed.
• Free tarot and astrology is absolutely free.  Unlike a lot of other sites of this nature, you are never asked for a dime here.  You type in your name and birth date and within seconds your full birth chart is presented to you.  A free tarot card reading is supplied if that is what you are after.  The magic eight ball is fun too.  Plus other stuff.  Check it out.
• Inbox Dollars is where I am starting to make some real cash.  I have received a couple of checks already from them.  Free to join plus they give you $5 to start with.  I mostly read emails and take surveys but they have a lot of other offers to earn a buck or two from.  I noticed they just added something called "cash tasks".  I'm anxious to find out what that's all about. 
• Send Earnings is a sister company to the one above.  Very similar in layout and offers and payout.  You can join them both.  I've already received one check from them and almost completed a second.
• Swagbucks is a search engine that pays in swagbucks, randomly for a search.  You can purchase entries into their contests or buy items like t-shirts, posters or gift cards.  So far I have purchased some paypal gift cards (which equals real money) and an amazon.com gift card.  I'm a big fan.
• Free Stuff Times,   I Love Free Things,   Thunderfap  are all no-nonsense straight up free sample websites.  That's it, nothing else, well that's not exactly true.  They have links you will want to check out.  One of them matches coupons with different stores to find you the best deal plus gives a coupon link to print the coupon you will need.  When I am on a freebie hunt these sites are my first.  While they have similar postings, they more than likely will have one or maybe two the others don't.

That should keep you busy for a month or two.  I've got more to share, believe me, lots more!  I just heard about this site where you can get just about anything done for no more than $5.  With the economy the way it is I guess people from all walks of life are looking to supplement their income.  I am in great need of a professional resume written by a professional and $5 is in my price range.  The name of the website?  I will let you know in my next post.  I must check it out first and make sure it's legit.  It's for your own protection.

Handy Tips You Can Use

After you have folded your sheet sets.  Place it all in one pillowcase to store.  You will always have the entire set together and won't have to go searching when you want to use.

Here's a crazy idea for ya.  You know how some folks save pennies.  Some even save their pocket change everyday.  What if everyday you saved every 1 dollar bill you had.  That sure could add up.  I am going to give it a try.  I'll let you know how it goes.

 

You don't have to buy special equipment to get to those hard to reach places to clean.  You already have a vaccuum cleaner with attachments right.  For places like behind refrigerator, back in corners or openings too small for your attachment to fit, you can use empty paper towel or toilet paper tube.  Just slip into attachment, tape securely and voila.  Now you have a customizable attachment.  And, for your computer keyboard and the like.  How about using a straw.  Works great! 

I know you have heard of putting fragrance samples (like the kind you get in magazines) in your drawers or closets to make clothing areas smell nice.  But why not put in your trash can, under bag, to help mask bad odors.

New Discovery I'm Gonna Let You In On

You've heard of swagbucks.com, right?  I have a widget at the bottom of my page for swagbucks.  They are a search engine site that gives you points for seaching the internet.  These points can be used to purchase merchandise.  They have a lot to choose from and some items don't require a lot of "swagbucks" for purchase.  For 45 "swagbucks"  I bought a $5 Amazon.com gift card.  You can purchase paypal card for $5 which I have done twice with success.  They have t-shirts, posters and a lot more.  Once I even saw a Led Zepplin "vintage" cassete available for purchase.  (at least not an antique yet)  Since I have recently discovered Amazon.com, I thought it would be nice to have some free money to purchase with.  It's not very hard at all to build up the bucks.  Also, within the display at the bottom of my page, there is a button to push to see if there are any free codes for extra points.  And you don't have to go to therir website to do your searches.  Do it from right here.  Go to the bottom of the page to sign up.
