Bed Sheets Repel Deer From Gardens

Yep, ordinary white bed sheets. Must be white. You'll see. Every once in a while a tip will come along that deserves honorable mention. Not only does it qualify because of multiple uses that make sense. It's completely doable for me. Meaning no crazy ingredients or instructions. An honorable mention has a little bit more. And this tip using bed sheets to repel deer from my garden, made me giggle. See if it doesn't put a smile on your face.

Circle your garden with cord about 3 feet from the ground. Then about every two feet tie strips of the white bed sheet. A flash of white, tail-high warns a deer to high-tail it.
Please tell me you just smiled. Maybe a little?

We are not through with those white bed sheets just yet.
  • drop cloth when painting
  • happy birthday banner, garage sale banner, welcome home banner  team banner, your get the idea.
  • target practice once you draw a bull's-eye.
  • very handy for taking to the lake to lay on while sunbathing, use as a towel or a tablecloth.
Speaking of tablecloths. You know those red and white checkered plastic table cloths sold in the summer. Grab one of these and let the kids use it to play checkers or for drawing. The ability to write on these tablecloths has been useful and fun at the same time for the adults too.

One more honorable mention before you go.

Stuffed animals are not just for setting around to look cute. I guess that is their main thing. But you know what else they can do while setting around looking cute. And by the way if  you are fresh out of stuffed animals, but dying to make some bookends. Don't buy them brand new. Save your money and adopt from a thrift store. They usually have a lot on the shelf. Some of them have the original tag attached.

(I once found a Steiff stuffed dog at the bottom of the stuffed animal bin at a thrift store.)
  • set stuffed animals along the bottoms of windows and doors during the winter to stop a draft and set there looking all lined up and cute.
  • insert rocks or marbles, sew them up, apply some rubber from a glove to the bottom of your stuffed animal bookend to prevent slipping, while sitting there looking cute.
  • makes a great hiding place for valuables because they are cute, not hiding anything.
Speaking of stuffed animals. Some one should start a not-for-profit shelter and adoption center for all the homeless stuffed animals that go without needed love everyday. And too many are trashed and discarded, only to wind up at the landfill. Never to return.

The shelter would also promote manufacturing awareness. From the manufacturers to the advertisers and all the other occupations involved. They must take  responsibility for the role they have played contributing to the stuffed animal crisis we see today.

Thanks for stopping by.
Leave a comment and let me know where to repay the visit with a link. Do you agree with my choices for honorable mention? Maybe you have a candidate for the title? Share, please.

6 Unbelievable Things Used As Fish Bait

Camping, fishing and going to the lake time is almost here.  I enjoy camping, swimming and watching other folks fish.(from the bank or boat)  Love, love, love the water.  And I don't mind contributing my cooking or cleaning skills to a good fish fry.  But, I will be needing someone else to catch (and fillet) the fish.  One of the things I hate about fishing is baiting the hook with a worm or anything gross, stinky or slimy.  Same goes for getting the dang thing reeled in and off the hook.  Yuk!  Here's a sampling of what people say they are using for bait and having good luck with it too.

  • Play-doh - orange or pink works best rolled in a ball on your hook attracts salmon and trout
  • WD-40 - spray on your lure to attract fish
  • Alka-Seltzer -  place in hollow tube jig, bubbles as it sinks attracting fish as it goes.
  • Altoids - wonder how this stays on the hook or lure?
  • Panty hose -  Say what?  yep, "they" say shred them up to make a lure.
  • Skin-So-Soft - again spray on lure.  "they" say anything to get rid of human scent.

Fish have a nose to smell human scent?

3 ideas to help get that campfire going for the fish fry.
  • Doritos for kindling - burns long enough to fire up damp wood.
  • Morton Salt - sprinkle on rock, put kindling around the rock, rub salt with second rock.
  • Vaseline Petroleum Jelly - apply to a long stick, light it with a match.

Chocolate Firms Pepto-Bismol Cleanses Champagne Exfoliates

I wouldn't cut out spa day all together.  Every once in a while you deserve a treat.  Nothing beats a relaxing day of being pampered.  You should try these treatments in between visits, too keep your look and your wallet in tip top shape.

Firming Facial
An essential nutrient for the skin firming connective tissues is copper.  I bet you will never guess what is very rich with copper.  Are you ready for this... CHOCOLATE.  Isn't that awesome!  So here's what you do. Mix one heaping tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder with enough heavy cream to form a paste. Apply it to your clean and dry skin.  After 15 minutes, rinse off with lukewarm water and a washcloth.  Pat dry.  And you might want to steer clear of the dog while your wearing this on your face.  If you know what I mean.

Beautifying Mask
Peaches are rich in vitamin A.  This fruit helps protect skin from bacteria that causes pimples and blemishes. Vitamin A also builds collagen, which helps to improve your skin's elasticity, tone and texture. This mask leaves your complexion radiant.  Here's what you do?  In a blender with one tablespoon of brandy, pulse a fresh, ripe, peeled and pitted peach.  Dampen your face and apply your puree.  After 20 minutes rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry.  Throw away any left- overs.
Cleansing Mask
Apply a thin layer of Pepto-Bismol to your face.  Leave on until it dries completely.  Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.  The clay-like mineral in Pepto-Bismol is bismuth subsalicylate, which acts as a cleansing agent and draws out the skin's impurities.

Oily Skin Balanced
Use witch hazel as a balancing agent.  Dab it on your face with a cotton ball, first thing in the morning and last thing at night.  Anytime you feel your face is feeling oily.
Exfoliation Scrub
Mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of champagne, enough to form a paste.  In circular motions, apply all over your face and neck.  Rinse off with lukewarm water and a washcloth.  Pat dry.  The enzymes that are in champagne's tartaric acid, along with the abrasive quality of the sugar should do a great job at exfoliating your skin.

Spots Be Gone
If you don't see results in one or two weeks, you'll have to learn to love your age spots and/or freckles I guess.  Grate half of a medium-sized onion onto a piece of cheesecloth, then squeeze the juice into a small bowl.  Mix in two teaspoons of distilled white vinegar and one tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide.  Using a cotton swab lightly, dab the solution on your spotty skin and let it dry.  Do this in the morning and evening.

NOTE:  Hydrogen Peroxide should be kept away from eyes.  Be aware that hydrogen peroxide tends to lighten any body hair that it comes in contact with.

Texas Hold'em Winning Tips

Play only when dealt one of the 10 best two-card hands which is a pair of 7's or higher, ace-king, ace-queen.  Otherwise fold.  Don't just "call" (match a bet) when dealt one of these hands at the start.  Always raise or re raise.  UNLESS!  If a conservative player already has made a big bet in front of you and you have a pair of 7s, 8s or 9s, you should fold.

Playing only strong hands will increase your odds of survival.  You will earn a reputation for playing only great cards.  That makes for easy bluffing later on.

Even if it doesn't help you, bet after the flop.  Make a bet to find out where you are at.  Opponents will fold or call rather than raise which indicates you might not be in too bad of shape.  If a raise and re raise are made before it's your turn to bet, fold, if your hand is not strong.  If you don't bet, someone else likely will.  You'll have to assume they made their hand.  If you do make a small bet and no one raises, could indicate you're still ahead.  This move will also confuse other players.

Time at the poker table should not be wasted.  Try to guess what cards players are holding based on their behavior and bets.  Watch for patterns like they only raise on big hands or do they act especially confident when they have nothing at all.

Once the other players get used to you betting big on great hands, throw them a curve.  If you have a pair of aces or kings, try calling before the flop.  This will make others believe your hand is weak and you'll win bigger pot.  Even if you don't win the pot, this will make it harder for them to figure out what you have the next time.

Is There Any Such Thing As Drinking Smart?

I'm sure you have seen the ads saying to drink smart, or drink wisely.  I was curious exactly what does that mean.  And believe it or not I found some tid bits here and there that can explain it.
  • Scotch is better with water than with soda.  The bubbles force alcohol into the bloodstream more quickly.  So, if you are not drinking your alcohol straight, it's better to dilute with water.
  • Depression, fatigue, flu or a cold can speed up the effects of a drink.  Not to mention, if you are on medication, better to check with doc before drinking at all.
  • Make every other drink a club soda or one of those fancy waters.  You'll be cutting down on calories and alcohol content while maintaining your coolness.
  • A study by Dr. J. MacDonald and A. Johnson found that smoking while drinking can kill because a chemical called ethyl nitrite appears in detectable amounts in the breath.  Holding the alcohol drink and the smoke in the mouth together for as long as 10 seconds results in the heaviest concentration of the chemical.  This chemical produces mutations, often carcinogenic, in living cells.
And by the way, you can't sober up fast.  It takes the body one hour or more to get rid of one shot of whiskey, four ounces of wine or 12 ounces of beer.  Exercise, black coffee or a cold shower doesn't reduce the alcohol levels in the bloodstream.  These activities usually just makes for a wide awake drunk.

Did You Know Pinecones Are Great For Campfire Kindling?

Here some other great tips for your camping enjoyment.  I thought some of these tips could be used at home too.
                                                 Coleman 9-Quart Excursion Cooler, Blue
Got a leaky cooler?  Simply melt some candle wax and work it in to the crack or hole.

Ants won't bother you or your food if you fill empty tuna cans 3/4 full with water and set each table leg in one.

To cook hamburgers more evenly throughout, put a hole in the middle of your hamburger about the size of your finger, during grilling the hole will disappear but the center will be cooked the same as the edges.

Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 4 TentMeasure ingredients for each meal ahead of time and pack in Ziploc bags. Label each bag accordingly.

Prepare soups, stews or chili etc ahead of time. Freeze in Ziploc bags and keep in cooler. Reheat for a quick meal.

To keep matches dry – dip stick matches in wax and when needed, scrape off the tip of the match and light.  Given a chance, matches will find a way to get wet.

When barbecuing chicken, grill the chicken without the sauce until it is halfway cooked, then coat with sauce. The sauce won’t burn onto the chicken and your meal will be more flavorful.
                                                                  LARGE 18" SQUAWKIN CHICKEN
Put a rope through the paper towel tube. Tie ends together. Loop over slat in picnic table or from a low limb

List of items you might not think to pack but will wish you had.
  • glow sticks - work great for soft light at night
  • baking soda - stain remover, cleanser, deodorizer
  • dental floss - awesome toothpick or emergency shoestrings
  • Gray (Duct) Tape - 2in. x 60 Yard LengthZiploc bags - will come in handy
