7 Signs of Spring

  1. Fern leaves (fronds) begin to unfurl.
  2. Hepatica flowers bloom in pastel colors in the woods.
  3. Willow twigs turn yellow-green.
  4. Sale signs start popping up.
  5. Auctions resume.
  6. Local college kids take a break.

Nesting birds start looking for material to build with. Tuck bits of string, feathers, yarn and cloth into a mesh bag and hang it on a fence for them to use.

Fair weather signs
High clouds, wind from the west, evening rainbow, clear sunset.

Foul weather signs
Red sky in the morning, strong south wind with clouds from the west, distant sounds carry with clarity, wind from the east.

*Do you know what a blackberry winter is?*
*A cool spell that sometimes happens in May while blackberries are in bloom.*

First fall frost comes six months after the first thunderstorm in spring.
Mark your calendar. Let's test this folk belief or put it to rest.

The best thing about Spring?
                                                                                                 It's almost Summer!
