First of all, there is no way you will be able to mentally remember when you purchased which products. A few ideas to keep track of when your products need to be tossed.
- Use a calendar to log your "toss" reminders.
- Write the purchase date on the product itself with a marker. Be sure marker is permanent and won't rub off on hand or for goodness sake, your face!
- If there is not one already, there should be an "app for that."
- Colorful stickers could prove handy to label a product with an expiration date.

Preventative maintenance prolongs the life as well as prevents contamination.
- It's not a good idea to store makeup in the bathroom. It should be kept in a cool, dry place. Out of the sunlight along with your cologne to ensure longevity.
- Moisture-causing bacteria contaminates lip and eyeliner pencils with every use. Sharpen after each use to remove traces of moisture.
- Wipe lipsticks periodically with alcohol wipes.
- Never use a product that someone else has used.
- Choose makeup products in sealed pump containers. You'll be able to dispense the product without introducing new bacteria.
