Moisture is the primary cause of mold and mildew in the bathroom. Keeping this area dry is not always an easy task. These tips will help. They don't take much time or expense either. Remembering to do them is the hard part.
- Before you hang a new shower curtain, fill the bathtub with a few inches of water and then add 2 cups of table salt. Soak your new curtain in salt for about 10 minutes. Then shake off the water and dry it with a clean cloth. Now you can hang a mildew-proof shower curtain.
- Open the door to the bathroom right after you shower.
- If you have an exhaust fan, turn it on before, during and after you shower.
- Wipe the walls of your shower stall dry when you are done. A squeegee is a handy tool for this. Keeping one of these in the shower is a helpful reminder, too.
- Kitty litter or charcoal briquettes will absorb excess moisture. For sure place some of this in the bathroom if you plan to be away from home for a while.
- Pull the shower curtain closed when done to prevent mold and mildew from forming in the folds.
- Preventing a steamy bathroom while you bathe is so easy. Fill bath tub with about 1" of cold water before you add the hot water. I have never heard this before. Have you?
