Plastic Welding Production Questions Answered

Plastic welding is just what it sounds like.  With the right tools including a welding rod made up of the same material being welded together to fill any gaps.  And heat application, described below, you melt the pieces of plastic to be bonded.  Place the melted pieces together and as they cool they form a very strong bond.
There are different types of welding or heat applications.  It all depends on what type of plastic is being welded together.  Thermoplastics are commonly used because of its ability to be melted and re-melted several times without being affected.  Thermosets are plastics that will not melt easily even when exposed to very high heat.  Airless welding tools are designed specifically to deal with this type of plastic.  There is also hot gas welding which is designed to offer more precision during the welding application.
Spin welding is another method used to weld thermoplastic materials.  In this process the materials are heated by friction.  One part doesn't move and the other part generates heat by spinning on a drill press or lathe.  Once the heat is generated between the two parts high enough the part held stationary is let go to spin with the other part and held together as they are cooling.
Harbor Freight has a large inventory including what you will need to tackle your next welding adventure.  They should not be overlooked when considering where to shop for all welding supplies needed  They are staffed with some helpful folks that would be glad to answer all your questions.  If you still have more technical questions to be answered, visit http://www.heatstaking.com I'm sure you can find what you're looking for there.
