I found some old pictures the other day. I say "found" because, even though they were buried in my closet, I had no idea they were there. Some were of my family dating from the 30s to 80s. Some were even older and of people I didn't know at all. To make a long story short, it got me wondering about what might have been there beauty tips back then. Here's what I found.
Instant night cream for dry skin, mineral oil. Smooth some on in a thin film over face and neck before you retire.

Baby cream makes a sensuous night cream for your face. And its got that lovely, sweet smell to make you sleep like a baby too.
To ease the itch of poison ivy, apply a compress of ice cold milk. Saturate a clean piece of cheesecloth and press over the rash.
Sleep on your back and you'll discourage wrinkles. You'll be sleeping crease-free.
Save money by mixing your own skin freshener. One part rubbing alcohol to four parts distilled water.
Lighten facial hair with a mixture of half hydrogen peroxide, half ammonia and enough mild soap flakes to make a paste. Leave on five minutes, then rinse off. Do a patch test first on a small spot of skin to see if you are sensitive.
Need a great nighttime face powder? You can use either baby powder or cornstarch. Buff them on with a fresh cotton puff.
How about a man's shaving brush for dusting on your loose face powder. Be sure it's one of the super-soft types that feels furry to the touch.
This is only a sampling of what I found in
The Woman's Day Book Of Beauty, Health And Fitness Hints, by Sharon Gold published in 1980.
