The Basics For Curling Your Hair

Revlon RV261 20-Roller Ionic Professional Hairsetter, PurpleHot Curlers can be used for setting the entire head or for turning ends under, upward, or forward.  Hot curlers work best for resetting the hair between shampoos when it is not "too clean."  But with the help of special setting sprays for use with hot curlers, you can do simple after-shampoo settings with them AFTER YOUR HAIR IS DRIED.  If hair is easy to curl, the regular dry curlers (used with the setting spray) are fine; for porous or hard-to-curl hair, the steam curlers or steam-plus-conditioner curlers may be preferred.

Be sure to leave the curlers in your hair until they are cool and/or dry.  Do not pull hot curlers from your hair, but unwind them gently, disturbing the hair as little as possible.  Do not brush you hair for 2-3 minutes after unwinding.   Brushing warm hair loosens the curl and causes your set to drop.

  • Comb one strand of hair.  Secure it as close to the tip as possible-under the clip of the barrel of the iron.  If you want the curl to turn under, the clip has to be on top.  If you want the curl to flip up, the clip has to be beneath.
  • Roll up the curl-as far as you want the hair to curl.  Hold the wand in place for 8-10 seconds-or a couple seconds longer if you want a really firm curl.
  • Unwind, release the curl.  Repeat with the next strand.
* Be careful if your hair is short.  Don't go too close to the scalp.
