- Have you noticed a change in the size of shopping carts? You are not crazy. This is a sneaky maneuver on their part to make us buy more. Their studies have shown that customers on average bought 19 percent more.
- Grocery stores use heat sensors to track where people are in the store to determine when you will be approaching the checkout counter. This helps management to get cashiers to their registers in advance.
- Have you ever had to take some extra time at the checkout because you can't seem to find your wallet, or maybe you just remembered you have a coupon to use. Did you notice your cashiers behavior? - Don't forget your neighborhood grocery store when having a fund raiser. They budget for supporting local causes. They are very interested in being a part of the community.
- What's up with the bread bagging? You would think that loaf is as fragile as a dozen of eggs. The smashed bread could become a problem if its on the bottom of one of those brown paper sacks everyone use to use. But the plastic bags they all use seem to only hold one item anyway. ATTENTION BAGGERS AT THE GROCERY STORE: If I am buying eggs and bread, put them in a plastic sack together. Potato chips and bread can go together. See what I mean? Those brown paper sacks are over!
- Myth: Milk is located in the back of the store so that customers will have to walk through the entire store, maybe seeing something on the way they will have to buy. The real reason is because milk needs to be refrigerated immediately. The trucks unload in the back and the milk gets stocked in the coolers without being exposed to room temperature.
- For the most part people will buy the same thing week after week. Keep your receipt for a ready made list and the price you last paid for each. So easy to tell if the item is on sale.
