7 Beauty Tips From Mom

OK, I'm not your Mom, but I've got some beauty tips your Mom probably gave you and you probably didn't listen.  So I'm going to tell you again.  Hopefully you will listen this time because these are the ones that really work.

  1. Sleeping on a satin pillow really is good for your hair.  It keeps your hair from tangling up and getting frizzy.
  2. Hunching curves your spine and creates a less attractive silhouette.  Keep your back straight while sitting or standing.  Standing up straight will make you look taller.
  3. Wearing too much makeup will only crowd out your own features.  Too much makeup also encourages acne.  Which reminds me of another tip.  Wash your face before going to bed.
  4. Recurrent and repetitive facial expressions weaken the skin, and you start to lose collagen and elasticity, that eventually creates wrinkles.  How  Mom said it, "Don't frown or you'll get wrinkles."  All you really need is a sweep of foundation where necessary, contoured eyes with a taupe shadow and curled eye lashes. Applying a coat or two of mascara to the top lashes only will make eyes appear larger. To finish your pulled together look, just tap on a little lip color for a subtle look and a dusting of blush to brighten your complexion.
  5. Since our bodies repair themselves during deep sleep, what Mom said is true, "Get plenty of beauty rest."  I hear 7 to 8 hours a night for the average adult equals well rested.
  6. Wearing lipstick will give you a boost.  Studies show looking at vibrant colors stimulates the brain, giving you a mental lift. Warm orange-reds for olive and yellow-tone skin.  Cool berry-reds for those with pink or red undertones.
  7. Wear high heels to elongate your legs.  A nude-colored pair of heels, even better.  3 inches of heel or more and less platform puts you on the ball of your foot and you will naturally stand straighter too. (see #2 above)
