Handy Tricks For Tricky Situations

Contact lenses lost in a carpet.  How exactly do you lose your contacts in a carpet?  Anyway...
Pantyhose over the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner and carefully vacuum the area.  The lens sticks to the pantyhose and doesn't get sucked into vacuum.

Replace the S-trap in a drain pipe with a squeezable trap.  One hard squeeze will send a drain blockage on its way.  These are available from a hardware or plumbing-supply store and can be easily connected with a screwdriver.

Cut down on dust in your home by spraying your home furnace filter/air-conditioner filter with a no-wax dusting product that attracts and holds circulating particles.  Don't forget to clean the filter regularly.

A burned pot can be cleaned.  First dampen it.  Sprinkle baking soda on the charred area, and add a lil' vinegar.  Let stand for at least 20 minutes.  It should then wash clean.

Vinegar is a safe, natural, inexpensive and quite handy thing to have around the house, aside from its obvious usefulness in the kitchen.  It can be used as a cleanser, deoxidizer or as an antiseptic for minor first-aid needs.  Three parts vinegar and one part water mixture keeps windshields both ice and frost free.
