Allen Elkin, PhD, director of the Stress Management Counseling Center in New York City recommends this nail biting cure, a yoga breathing technique called rapid relaxation. He claims it has worked for many women.
Sit quietly with your right hand resting on your lap. Inhale deeply through your nose. Hold the breath as you squeeze your thumb and index or middle finger of your right hand. Hold this position for 4 to 6 seconds, then exhale through parted lips. Let your hand relax and allow the tension to leave your body. Repeat any time you feel the urge to bite your nails.
